Ask anyone to name a British pop producer and it’s a good bet that this man’s name will be uttered. Trevor Horn has produced (and played instruments on) some of the biggest singles and albums of the last thirty-five years, collaborating with classic acts like Yes, Seal, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Grace Jones, ABC, Pet Shop Boys, Lisa Stansfield and Robbie Williams.
In 2004, his label ZTT Records asked us to design event branding for Produced by Trevor Horn, a thirteen act Wembley concert in aid of The Prince’s Trust, celebrating his twenty-five year career in the industry. We spoke to his manager on a Tuesday lunchtime and presented branding concepts by Thursday morning. Luckily for us we knew the man’s history well – much of his early work sits on the music shelf at Gibson.
We designed the event branding, a double CD album, concert programme, flyers, posters, press and magazine advertising and all the show merchandising – right down to the ubiquitous mug.
Some three hours after the show had opened with a note perfect rendition of ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’ (supported by a full orchestra), it all came to a glorious close. How did the show go? Let’s just say we were hoarse as the last act, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, left the stage. The branded mugs sold well, too.
